Environmental group Friends of the Earth said the principle of using a limited "budget" of carbon per person was sound, but the implementation - especially as it would involve a government IT project - was a cause for concern.

Friends of the Earth climate change campaigner Martin Williams said: "What worries us is that it could take quite a long time to implement it and really we don't have that long to tackle climate change."

At a meeting in Downing Street on Monday, the prime minister met business, media and religious leaders to promote "collective action" against climate change.

The Bishop of London and the chief executives of B&Q, BSkyB, the Carphone Warehouse, the director general of the BBC and Tesco formed a partnership to publicise "practical, simple solutions". A public campaign will be launched in March 2007.

People and Planet are team of the Week!

People and Planet have been named TEAM OF THE WEEK in Purple Wednesdays, following the Fairtrade Fashion show on Monday night.

We are the first true Club/Society Team of the week for 2006/2007. Well done! Last week, the team were the Sebaticals.

Thanks to everyone from People and Planet who came and helped. I would like to say thanks to the Dance club and the Breakdancers who put on an awesome show on Monday and put a lot of effort and time in. Also huge thanks to Elle, and also to Portsmouth Fairtrade Foundation who organised the event.

About the Society
If you are interested in joining team of the week, or seeing what we do, then please join us tomorrow in CO2 at 6pm. We will discuss further Monday's success and our next big event - Shared Planet in November. The meeting will be for 90 minutes, and was loads of fun last week. This is after the Union Council meeting, when people will be trying to get the SU open for longer hours again!

Fairtrade Fashionshow was a success

Hi.

I have updated the people&planet Oneworld fairtrade fashionshow photos, with the ones which I took last night.
Many photos that I took were blurry. :-(

Shared Planet Info

Shared Planet is the biggest student conference in Europe on world poverty, human rights and the environment. Hundreds of students come together every year to listen to rousing speakers, participate in interactive skills and issues workshops, take action and party!

Shared Planet 2006 is going to be the biggest, best and highest impact P&P event yet. It will take place in Central London from 3 - 5 November and will include the opportunity to take part in a massive Carnival of Climate Chaos on the saturday afternoon.

Tickets are available online and cost £15 (£19 if you book after 20 October). Groups can get 1 free ticket for every 10 booked. Basic accommodation is available @ £3 per night.

You can get your ticket for free by travelling sustainably to Shared Planet and raising over £120 in sponsorship for People & Planet.
